I had to bring my truck’s brake drums to the machine shop today to get turned, so I swung through downtown Willimantic to check out what was going on. New England Central train 608 was working the Willimantic Waste/CC Lonsbury area – well out of easy photo range. So I decided to check out the two cars that were on their sides as a result of the NECR derailment in Mansfield, CT that happened last December.
Well, it was about 32 degrees F when I got there, and let me tell you, the spilled soybeans sure do stink! If it smelled that bad when the weather was this cool, what will it smell like on a balmy 90 degree and humid summer afternoon? Yikes! Anyways, here’s a few shots of the cars and some detail shots of them laying around. Doesn’t look like they’ll be moving any time soon.
