Well, I broke down & got a new scanner. I needed a new flatbed anyways, so I sprung for a mid-range Canon flatbed that can do film also, including medium format. It’s not nearly as nice as my Nikon Coolscan V ED for 35mm, but it does the trick. And it was on sale. 🙂
Anyways, here’s 3 scans from my run up to the Berkshire Scenic Railway in Lenox, MA to plan out the 2nd Annual Night Photo Shoot (9/1/07).

The Nikon Coolscan V ED is a sweet scanner, and I highly recommend it – well worth the $600 or so it costs. It does very well with B&W films – both traditional and Agfa Scala B&W slides. DigitalICE, however, has some problems with B&W, so you need to put a clean neg into the scanner. But the scans that come off of it are incredible. Here’s a couple B&W (Kodak T-Max) scans with the Nikon:
