Saturday night I was asked if my Lumedyne and I could join a couple other photographers up in Grafton, MA to shoot the Grafton & Upton power. With nothing on the schedule, I accepted their offer.
I met up with Nick Palazini and Dave Jodoin in Webster, MA for the ride up to Grafton. There we’d meet up with Josh Oparowski and begin the evening’s festivities. After a short ride to Grafton, we all piled out of the cars and made our way to the Grafton & Upton equipment sitting silently under the cloudy skies.
The G&U rosters an Alco S-4 (GU #212), and a pair of Bay Colony EMD locomotives – a GP9 (BCLR #1707) and a CF7 (BCLR #2443), and we shot all three that night. Nick even got up on the steps of the GP9 with a lantern and played conductor for the cameras. So, without further adieu, here’s the stuff from Saturday night!

Nice story and photos Tom. I love seeing a new twist on this old railroad.

Incredible Photos! Your night photography creates an eerie sense about the RR as it catches its final nights of rest. Not much longer will it be before the G&U is awoken from decades of slumber and lives once again.
Nice shots Tom and thanks for the lighting.
