On Sunday we took the kids on a surprise ride down to Old Lyme. McCulloch Farm, home of Whipporwill Morgan horses (check out their website here), was having an open barn event called “Foals and Flowers.” So we packed a picnic lunch, and made our way to Old Lyme to enjoy the beautiful day in the presence of some beautiful horses, along with a 3 week old foal.
We got there a little before noon, so we decided to walk around a bit before breaking out the picnic lunch. While we were walking around, they started a demonstration of ground driving in the arena adjacent to the main barn (ground driving, or long lining, is a training process, preparing the horse for either pulling a cart, or having a rider use reins). After that, we had a little picnic, and walked around some more. A very nice farm, with some beautiful Morgan horses, including their newest addition – Gabriel, a 3 week old colt. Here’s the shots from our walk around the grounds.

What a nice presentation! You have some fine shots here and I will forward this set to the girl who was driving the bay filly.
We have a trail ride coming up on June 13th riders taking trails through the woods and performing on obstacles. Our demonstration day is in September on the Saturday after Labor Day.and we also plan another trail ride in the fall. No date set. All good photo ops. What yu missed was a real walk around the farm to the lakes and woods. Come back this fall when the colors are bright. The view from the dam over the lake are stunning.
