Fall in New England brings plenty of cloudy days along with the changing color on the trees. On Friday the 15th I managed to get out and shoot a bit, catching an Amtrak Acela, Northeast Regional and a work extra over lunch, then a New England Central ethanol extra later in the day.
Over lunch I grabbed my sandwich and headed over to Niantic to meet up with a couple other local railfans – Marc and Vinny – to catch some trains along the Niantic Bay Boardwalk. While dodging raindrops, we managed to catch a westbound Amtrak Northeast Regional, followed by a westbound Amtrak work extra, and finally an eastbound Amtrak Acela. Not too bad for a quick stop at the boardwalk – and I worked a nice mile walk into it as well.
After I got out of work, I headed north to see if I could catch a southbound NECR ethanol extra out of Palmer. I ended up catching them in Stafford Springs after they got pushed over the State Line hill to the north. I got shots of them at two spots in Stafford, then another in Tolland. That was it since I had to get down to Norwich ASAP. Plus the light was fading fast, and I was driving through some pretty heavy downpours.

Thanks Tom,
My favorites are the CN locomotive with the crossing flasher. That garage just to the right of the tracks would be a cozy place for a model railroad.
