Steam under the stars

Since getting my Lumedyne setup, I’ve wanted to head down to Essex and shoot the Valley Railroad’s steam engines after a day’s work.  Last night, I got that chance – nice calm night, and a little free time to make the hour long trip from home to Essex.  So I loaded my gear up and made the trip south.  On my way down, I was hoping that both steamers would be outside so I could shoot both #40 and #97 under the stars.

I got to Essex a little more than an hour later (I stopped for a coffee at Dunkin Donuts), and looked around.  Damn, only #97 was outside.  Oh, well, that’ll have to do, I guess…  So I set up, and took a variety of photos of her, from different angles around the pit area.  Instead of talking about each, here they all are.  All but one are lit with the Lumedyne.  Only the “Parking Brake” shot was done with 100% available light.  There were more things in the yard to shoot, but I ran out of juice in the battery.  Still, I spent a good hour there, and came away with a few good shots.

Thanks for looking!
