Some Tax Day Doings

Once again, I’m behind.  Here’s some stuff from last week – April 15th, or Tax Day for those of us here in the US.  As the day started out, I thought I wouldn’t catch any train action, but as it ended, that all changed.

So I headed out Wednesday morning on a double mission – first was to visit the Post Office and mail out our CT taxes (Federal was already done electronically), and then hopefully I could catch Providence & Worcester train NR-2.  So I headed to the Gales Ferry post office, figuring that there would be a line in Groton, and also that post office was down the street from Erickson Park and Mill Cove.  So after the postmark hit the envelope, I headed down Military Trail to the park.  While waiting, I grabbed the camera & scanner and walked around a bit.  With the silence continuing on the scanner, I shot some of the scenery around the park – including the remnants of a few seagull’s meals and the newly bloomed daffodils.

Well, with the scanner still silent – not even a peep on the P&W frequency – I packed it in and headed back to the office.  Hey, I got my taxes off and got a nice walk in.

Later that day, while going through Willimantic on an errand, I noticed a New England Central locomotive sitting in the NECR Willimantic yard by Bridge Street.  So I got a shot of it in the daylight.

Wondering what it was doing there – as this was the unit 608 has been using – I came back later on.  Of course it was after dark with the Lumedyne.

Well, I got some information off of the scanner as the Palmer job was coming into town, and I was setting up to shoot it in Willimantic later that evening.  Turns out it was going back up to Palmer, as was another unit that was sitting dead down in Yantic.  With that info, I went down to Yantic to shoot that unit while the train was working in Willimantic, and would return to Willi when they headed down to Yantic.  So, yep, I got both units under darkness, but to see these shots you’ll have to attend my slide show on May 30th at the Northeast Prototype Modeler’s Meet in Canton, CT.  Stay tuned for more details on that – yes it’ll be centered around railroads at night.

Thanks for looking!
