Well, at just a hair over 80,000 frames, I’ve officially shelved my venerable Canon EOS 20D body. To be totally truthful, this wasn’t a voluntary move. My 20D decided to die yesterday – the shutter button is stuck in the half-press mode, making some functions impossible (like viewing anything on the LCD, changing ISO, etc.). Since I’ve got the CERM Night Shoot this weekend, shipping the body off to Canon was out of the question. So after I tried to repair it – I had it apart, but couldn’t easily get to the switch and connections – I bit the bullet, and took advantage of Best Buy’s 24 month no financing charge deal and picked up a brandy new Canon EOS 40D. At some point in the future, the 20D will go off to Canon’s NJ repair facility to get fixed, and will assume a backup role, so she’s not entirely done yet. But tomorrow, I hope to get out and play with the new toy…stay tuned…

I think you will LOVE it. I broke down two months ago. I also was enticed by Best Buy’s
camera and 2 lens deal. My D80 has been gathering dust ever since.

Yeah, so far so good. They tried to pitch the package with the 70-300mm IS lens, but I couldn’t see paying an extra $500 for a lens I’d never use… Hope I can get out a bit tomorrow and put it through its paces…

I really like the 28 – 135. My biggest complaint is the lack of lens shades. I went out Saturday and bought shades for both lenses. I also find the 70 – 300 an great lens, although around here, there are few places to use it.
If you got my little blurb about my Mothers Day trip to Dallas, GA; the DALLAS 2 shot was taken with the 70 – 300 at 240 mm. I was impressed with the quality.
Know anyone who wants a pile of Nikon glass? 🙂

Yeah, I’ve had the 28-135 before – I actually sold it so I could get my Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. The 28mm end wasn’t as wide as I wanted it, and I really wanted the faster f/2.8 glass (all my glass, with the exception of the new 28-135, is f/2.8 or faster).
Yes, I did get your GA email (sorry I didn’t get back to you about it – great shots!), and I’ll go back to check out that one shot. For me, I’ve already got a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, and I really don’t have a use for the extra 100mm on the long end, or IS, so it really wasn’t worth it for me…
I dunno, I kinda like it. I guess anything with New Haven on it is good in my book. Bob LaMay just sent me a couple shots he took of one of them at Harmon yesterday that are killer! One is next to an FL-9…
