Returning 688 Class – NanosPhoto – Photo Blog by Tom Nanos

Here’s one from January 29th. Caught a Los Angeles class fast attack submarine heading back to the US Sub Base in Groton on my way into work. Not sure of which boat it was, but it was a later 688 class boat (688I).

Here’s the series of photos I took of the sub heading north in the Thames River towards the Sub Base.

Hi Tom:
Great Shots. Do you know if the “Eagle” will be returning to the Academy since the bridge has been replaced? Great shots of “The Silent Service”.

To my knowledge, the Eagle will be staying where she is – at the Fort Trumbull pier. If you look closely, you can see her aft deck is shrink wrapped for the winter. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen her at the academy in quite a few years – at least a couple years before the Thames River draw replacement project began. Not sure why…
