P&W NR-2 at Mill Cove

Headed out at my usual time this morning to take my walk, and catch Providence & Worcester train NR-2 heading south in Ledyard. The timing worked out great so I could get a good walk in, then shoot the train rolling south along Mill Cove under a gorgeous blue sky.

Today I decided on a slightly different angle. I headed a couple hundred yards south of Erickson Park to the first bridge over the cove giving me a nice view of MP4. But I decided to mix it up a bit and stand on the concrete bridge abutment, giving me another 4 feet of elevation. Once I got up on the abutment, a rumble in the distance got louder, promptly followed by the GE’s horns sounding for the crossing at Red Top. Moments later, the train appeared at MP4 at the north end of Mill Cove.

And a bit further south, with the NRG Montville power plant in the background

Then a “meet” with a northbound boat in the Thames River

And a broadside view

Finally, NR-2 rolling along the southern end of Mill Cove with a swan paddling by

After the train rolled past, I grabbed a couple shots of the trailing power, the second showing that swan still calmly padding past.

As the train headed south, I headed back north to the parking area, got in the car, and headed back to the office. Man, it was too nice out to be working, but I gotta pay the bills somehow!

Thanks for looking!
