NR-4X – Part I

This past Tuesday the Providence & Worcester ran an extra – NR-4X – from Plainfield to Willimantic.  They brought out some interchange traffic for the NECR, but also they were picking up some cars from Willimantic.  Some were the normal lumber flats and boxcars, but five were different.  There were five loaded autoracks waiting in Willimantic yard for the P&W to pick up.  These were the first loaded racks to be delivered via the Green Mountain Gateway.

I met up with Nick Palazini and Bob LaMay at various points between Versailles and Willimantic – well, I really only met up with Nick, Bob & I were talking on the phone.  Anyways, I managed to catch them in Versailles at Federal Paper, along the Shetucket River at a couple spots, and Willimantic before I had to head back south.  Most of the way I was dodging raindrops, but in Willimantic, just as the train was about to come into view near Pleasant Street, the sun came out in full force.  OK, that’s enough typing, here’s the goods.
