Oops, I missed a bunch of photos from January in my one big post from a little while back. On January 22, Bob LaMay and I made our annual trip up to the Mystic Valley Railway Society’s calendar judging luncheon. And as usual, we did a little railfanning along the way. On the way up we shot the Grafton & Upton, CSX, MBTA and CSX, and on the way home we caught one more MBTA train. And in between we saw some pretty good rail photos as candidates for the 2012 MVRS calendar, and had a very tasty lunch.
The trip up we had planned on shooting a little in North Grafton, then head over to Framingham for a bit before heading to Sommerville for the luncheon and slideshow. While in North Grafton we shot the Grafton & Upton RR equipment in North Grafton, then a CSX light engine move. In Framingham we caught one MBTA run picking up passengers, and took a slew of shots of the CSX power laying over in Framingham yard. Since Bob was driving, I managed to squeeze off one shot of a CSX engine idling away at Boston’s Beacon Park Yard, then after we emerged from the tunnels I got a shot of the Leonard Zakim bridge as we crossed over it. On the way home, we caught one MBTA move along the Mass Pike. All in all a good day. OK, enough talking, let’s see the photos!

Those G&U engines look fantastic. If RailAmerica wasn’t so damn cheap, the CSO engines could have also looked that nice; they would have only had to buy paint because the employees were willing to volunteer the labor, and the same guy that painted the G&U engines worked for the CSO at that time back around 2002.
