I had taken Columbus Day off from work (we don’t get that as a holiday), and had planned on getting some things done around the house. But the night before we had the neighbors over for a little bonfire and one of the conversations we had changed my plans completely.
My neighbor as it turns out was working on a couple projects down in New Haven yard, and had invited me to come down and check things out. So I did just that – we arranged a time & place to meet up, and we’d head over to the yard and check things out. All in all we spent about an hour walking/driving around, and I got plenty of shots around the shops area, including a few of the stored FL9s. Then on the way back home, I ended up catching Providence & Worcester NR2 at Leets Island in Branford, a westbound Shore Line East at Guilford and an Acela at Niantic. All in all, a pretty good day.

Thanks for the photos, Tom. I wonder how many coats of paint the FL9’s have received in their lifetime.

Tom,
Great pictures! Entertained me for awhile during my lunch at work. Your neighbor(my son)sent them to me. I will also forward them to my train buddy.
Thanks Larry! Glad Jason found the site – I forgot to send it to him… 🙂
Tom:
Good to see you and Bob LaMay last Saturday. Finally got around to seeing some of your old posts. If you ever need anyone to carry your camera bag for another trip to the New Haven shops, I volunteer. Must have been a great day. By the way, the MBTA also has a couple of those snow blowers you showed. They call them the “Snowzillas”! How did you manage that whole trip?

Joe-
Great seeing you as well!
Yeah, was a great time there – too bad we only had an hour or so to walk around. Still got in as much as I could – my neighbor’s project is done there, so my “in” is now “out” so to speak. But it was nice walking around there for the hour, taking shots of the area.
