Holy crap does time fly when you’re doing nothing but shoveling snow. Yep, we’ve been inundated with snow the past month or so here in the Northeast, and I have next to no photos to show for it! But I did manage to get out a few times to shoot. So instead of doing each one individually, I’ll roll them all into one big meaty sandwich of a single post. In here you’ll see some slices of the New England Central, Providence & Worcester along with some Amtrak goodness.

The first time I actually got a chance to get out and shoot for a bit was on January 11th, where I caught Providence & Worcester train NR-2 at Mill Cove, the USS Nautilus and Fairview Yard in Groton. On the headpin of the train was 80 ethanol empties they were delivering to the NECR in New London. Nothing extraordinary about the photos, but hey, it’s something.

A few days later I caught NECR train NERWNE (AKA 608) heading north through Uncasville on my way into work. A short train, but it was in some fairly fresh snow, so the scenes overall are kinda pretty. This was before we got hit with 90 straight snowstorms and weren’t so bitter about more snow…

On Martin Luther King Jr. day I managed to get out and shoot the New England Central train NERWNE between Norwich and Willimantic, again in some fresh snow. And as a bonus, there’s some cab shots from Willimantic as the crew cleared the tracks, and did a little switching in the yard.

And finally, Friday the 28th I managed to get out and meet a couple other railfans at the Niantic Bay Boardwalk to shoot an Acela and a Northeast Regional. A somewhat sunny morning, but it was nice to get out and shoot a couple trains. Also in the frame is some of the work going on around the Niantic River drawbridge and Amtrak’s replacement project.
[cpg_album:833]And that’s it for the first month of 2011! One of these days I’m going to finish up my Best of 2010 and post it up. It may be May, but I’ll get it out at some point…I promise!
Thanks for looking!
