Connecticut Renegades – Cowboy Mounted Shooting

Connecticut Renegades Cowboy Mounted Shooting - www.nanosphoto.com

This past weekend we went to the Four Town Fair in Somers, CT for some of the usual fair stuff – rides, food, animals and of course beer.  But the Four Town Fair has something else to offer – a Cowboy Mounted Shooting demonstration put on by the Connecticut Renegades, a CMS team from north-central Connecticut.  Take horseback riding, throw in a bit of 1880’s period costumes, a couple loaded Colt .45s (with blanks of course) and some balloons and you’ve got yourself a Cowboy Mounted Shooting event!  Read on for more…

I photographed this group a few years back when they first put on a demonstration at the Four Town Fair, and it was as much a blast this time as it was then.  Pretty neat watching folks riding on horseback – some at a pretty good clip, winding through an obstacle course, firing at balloons mounted on traffic cones, trying to pop all of them with the burning powder from the Colt revolvers.

Below are 22 shots, which is a small sampling of what I shot that afternoon (I took well over 900 frames – what a way to break in my new camera, a Canon 50D).  I’ll probably post some more later on, but for now, here’s some to give you a flavor of what Cowboy Mounted Shooting is all about.
