Camera Club Night Shoot at CERM

As most of you know the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum in Willimantic, CT does an annual night photo shoot, which usually occurs in late September.  But the night came alive in Willimantic on May 14th – well before the usual time for the shoot.  That Saturday night, the museum hosted the Shooters Gallery Photography Group, based in Colchester, CT.  The club essentially rented out the museum for the night, and 25 photographers descended on Columbia Junction for the evening.

Once again, Steve Barry, editor of Railfan & Railroad magazine, graciously provided the lighting for the evening’s festivities.  Prior to the club’s arrival, we had set up equipment at four locations, essentially giving us 6 or 7 different scenes to shoot.  And as we have been doing during the past few regular museum night shoots, we ended the evening by throwing some sparks off of the pilot of 0-4-0T #10, adding some “fireworks” to the end of the night.  All in all, everyone enjoyed themselves, quite a few learned about shooting at night, and hopefully everyone came away with images they’re happy with.  I know I did.  Finally, as a bonus, before the shoot started, the New England Central went by, giving us a live show.  Everyone was confused about the Florida East Coast locomotives, though…

And speaking of the regular museum night shoot, we’ll be announcing the date soon.  Here’s my view of Saturday night.
