A quick stop in Preston

This morning had a small window where I could get out and shoot a bit – and today also had a little advantage.  Nick Palazini and Nate Lafond were chasing Providence & Worcester train NR-2 south out of Plainfield, CT.  They’d be able to give me a heads up on their southbound move, as well as the consist.  We figured ahead of time that we’d meet up at the Route 2A overpass in Preston for a shot with some of the straggler leaves still on the trees.

Well, the train was making good time this morning – by the time I got up to the intersection of 2A and 12 in Preston, they just called south of MP12 a couple miles to the north.  I opted to drive out to the bridge instead of parking in the lot, and running the rest of the way out to the bridge.  While driving out there, Nick & Nate were already walking out.

So we go there, and while waiting, a Connecticut State Trooper asked what we were doing.  After telling him, he nodded his head and drove off.  OK, we’re good.  Or so we thought…

A few seconds later, NR-2 came into view, and as we were shooting, another trooper came up and parked behind me.  After we finished shooting, the trooper called us over, and asked what we were doing.  We explained again, and he did his usual of asking for ID (which we provided).  After a bit, he came back and said we were good to go, and if we ever came back to shoot here, we should call the barracks and request a trooper come out to watch us to keep us safe.  Pretty nice.

OK, enough of that (bet you thought we were arrested or something…sorry to disappoint) – here’s the few pictures from the bridge.

And that was it for shooting – Nick & Nate went on to shoot NR3 (not from the bridge) and an ethanol extra over in Providence, and I went back to work.

Thanks for looking!
