Well, I didn’t get a chance to post anything last night, and for a good reason. My wife & I took the Valley Railroad’s comedy train, called “Laugh Tracks” – I’ll post a review of it at some point in the near future (short story – we enjoyed it!). Here’s a quick look at Thursday’s walk – there’s nothing for today. Not only was the weather crappy, but I was off and running errands all day, then we went to the Lebanon Fair tonight (we’re going all 3 days, so watch for pictures next week sometime). One of the errands, though, was to Simmonds Photo in East Hartford to pick up darkroom chemistry so I can start doing my black & white processing again! OK, enough of that, on with the show…
I had to take advantage of the gorgeous weather on Thursday, so I headed out at my normal time. As I was making my way onto Military Highway, the scanner came alive with Rod’s voice – NR-2 was reporting that they were south of MP5. Damn, another early start! So I figured I could get to the Nautilus before they got through the sub base.
I got there about 2 minutes before the train, so I could scout out a couple angles. I opted for an old standby – now that the brush was cut back. There was a decent reflection on the cove, too.

And a going away shot

From there, I headed to the Thames River drawbridge for a view from the south. None of the P&W shots came out – even though it was a short train (5 cars) with power on one side. I did get a shot of Amtrak train 190 passing the work area on the bridge.

Since P&W had to wait for 190 to clear the station, that gave me enough time to get ahead of them and get a shot of them heading for, and over the Shaw’s Cove swing bridge across the river from me.

Not exactly what I had planned, but it was good enough. From there it was a quick ride back to work for the remainder of the day. With weather like that on Thursday, it really was hard going back to the office. Oh, well, gotta pay the bills!
Thanks for looking!
Tom
