Phew, finally just about caught up. Last week I had to go down to New Jersey for a couple days for work, so like usual, the camera bag came along with me for the trip. But I was only able to get out once due to my schedule – the evening of the 4th of November (yes, I was out of state on Election Day – I did file my absentee ballot the week before…). Luckily, I was able to catch one train that evening…
After I left work, I headed to the hotel to check in. With that set, I put my suitcase in the room, relaxed for a couple seconds, and headed out with the camera bag in hand. I figured my best bet for catching anything would be the Manville area.
When I got there, I found an NS freight sitting on the Royce Runner, waiting for their conductor to do something behind them. So I set up my tripod and started an exposure. Of course, just then the conductor called for the engineer to shove back a couple car lengths. So I got this nice blur shot…
[cpg_imagefixthumb:8235]Then the train pulled forward again, and stopped. So I took advantage of that and got an ambient light shot of the train sitting in the darkness.
[cpg_imagefixthumb:8234]A little while later (the time it took the conductor & conductor trainee to walk up from the end of the train), they began to pull out. Just before they turned the headlights on, I started an exposure, getting a nice shot of the train, then the headlights streaking away from it.
[cpg_imagefixthumb:8233]Hey, it’s different!
At that point, with nothing else I can see, I headed back to the hotel to watch the presidential election results, while sipping on a nice Jack Daniel’s & Coke…
Thanks for looking!
