Friday I was able to get out for a bit to walk and catch Providence & Worcester train NR-2 in Ledyard.\u00a0 As things worked out I was able to catch NR-2 while the wind was non existent.\u00a0 And when the wind isn’t moving around the water, Mill Cove is like glass.\u00a0 And on top of that, there was a bulk freighter in New London unloading lumber.<\/p>\n

Sunshine and no wind usually makes for some pretty nice pictures at Mill Cove, but last Friday I found a little surprise when I got to Mill Cove.\u00a0 The causeway was clear of brush!\u00a0 Apparently the brush cutter has been working their way north along the Norwich Branch.\u00a0 So now two pieces were in place – it was just a matter of time to wait for NR-2 to fill in the third piece.<\/p>\n
Well, I wouldn’t have to wait long – on my way out of the office, NR-2 called the Worcester dispatcher to report that they were south of MP12, and about 15 minutes from the sub base.\u00a0 And about 15 minutes later, NR-2 came into view to the north, along a now clearly visible milepost 4.<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8967]\n
And took their reflection for a ride along Mill Cove<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8966] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8965] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8964]\n
And my favorite shot of the bunch – NR-2 rolling over the inlet to the cove, with the flowering dogwood<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8963]\n
Then as the markers rolled by, I got a pan shot of the last two cars<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8962]\n
And on the way back to the office, I got a few shots of a bulk freighter, the Merchant, at the State Pier in New London.<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8961] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8960] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8959]\n
That was it for Friday – had to get back to the office at that point.<\/p>\n
