Down in New Jersey again for work this week, and after I got out of the office this afternoon – despite staying later than normal- I headed out to try to take advantage of some sweet sunshine during the golden hour.\u00a0 As it worked out, I caught a few trains as the sun was setting.<\/p>\n

After checking into the hotel, I decided I’d head down the road to Bound Brook to take advantage of the last hour or so of usable sunlight.\u00a0 I parked the car, grabbed my scanner and cameras, and headed to the station.\u00a0 As I got to the far platform between the NJT and Conrail tracks, I noticed something at CP-BOUND BROOK – both signal indications were showing approach.\u00a0 Hmmm, would something be coming on both tracks?\u00a0 I guess I’d have to stick around and find out.<\/p>\n

A little while later I heard the Conrail detector to the east go off – I guess this was one of the trains coming my way!<\/p>\n

Not long after that, Norfolk Southern train 65J – a loaded unit garbage train – appeared in the beautiful evening sunlight.<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8858] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8857]\n

Then as the train rolled past, the wonderful aroma of trash wafted through the station.<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8855] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8856]\n

Hey, it may have stunk to high heaven, but I got a few good shots of it!<\/p>\n

But things weren’t done yet.\u00a0 A few moments later, Conrail local MA-1 appeared to the east, slowing approaching Bound Brook<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8854] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8853] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8852]\n

Then towards and through the CP-BOUND BROOK interlocking<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8851] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8850] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8849] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8848]\n

Not bad – two freights in a matter of minutes.<\/p>\n

As the train continued westward, I walked around the platform and ran into another railfan that I met last time I was down there.\u00a0 We chatted for a while, and I got a final shot of a westbound NJT pulling into the station.<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8847]\n

At that point as the light was fading fast, we bid farewell and I headed back to the hotel for the evening.<\/p>\n
