This time I headed a bit further north to the overlook on Poquetanuck Cove on the Ledyard/Preston town line. Not a bad view, and some sweet sunshine could make for some decent images.A few minutes later I heard a low rumble in the distance – NR-2 was getting close. So I grabbed the camera, and set up the shots. I got them pulling across the causeway seperating the cove from the Thames River:

[cpg_imagefixthumb:2647] [cpg_imagefixthumb:2646]

Then it was back to the office. Hey, wait a second, don’t click away yet – I’m not done here. After lunch, I popped across the river to check out what’s going on at the Winthrop Cove trestle at the south end of the NECR yard. The work on the trestle is what prompted the P&W to move their interchange with the New England Central Railroad to Willimantic temporarily. A MoW crew was hard at work in the middle of the trestle. Looks like they’re replacing tie plates at this point. I had seen somewhere that replacing some of the timbers would be done – perhaps that’s already completed and they’re starting to wrap things up.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:2645]

OK, now that’s it. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program…already in progress…

Thanks for looking & enjoy!
Tom

I couldn’t pass up a beautiful morning, so I ducked out for a few minutes to try to catch Providence & Worcester train NR-2.
