And here’s Part II from October 23rd.\u00a0 In Part I<\/a>, I chased a pair of P&W jobs with Nick Palazini.\u00a0 Well, later that day, the weather changed to a very nice & sunny afternoon.\u00a0 Since I was picking up my oldest daughter from the bus, and we had a few hours to kill before her gymnastics practice, I asked her if she’d like to take a ride to catch some trains.\u00a0 With a huge smile on her face and a vigorous nod of her head, I had my answer.\u00a0 So she climbed in the truck, and we headed south.\u00a0 Our best bet would be along the Shore Line, so I set our sights on the Niantic boardwalk.<\/p>\n

We got to Niantic, and I opted to park on the western end of the boardwalk so we could make our way east – and since it was in the afternoon, the sun would be at our backs.\u00a0 Now if we could only come across a train.<\/p>\n

Well, Katina was content either way – she was picking up interesting shells along the way, until we heard a rumbling to the east.\u00a0 Looking up we saw an Acela heading our way across the Niantic River drawbridge.\u00a0 So I grabbed the 40D with the telephoto on it and snapped a couple shots of the train rolling along the boardwalk.<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8210] [cpg_imagefixthumb:8209]\n

Then a switch to the 20D with the wide angle to get Katina, and my shadow, watching the Acela race past us.<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:8208]\n

After the train sped west, Katina went back to picking up shells and rocks, and I just enjoyed the view.\u00a0 About another half hour later, and no sign of more train action, we decided to head out.\u00a0 She did need to get back to Willimantic for her gymnastics practice, after all.\u00a0 So we bid the shoreline farewell, and headed back north.\u00a0 Despite only catching one train, it was a perfect way to spend an afternoon – a little daddy-daughter quality time.<\/p>\n
