Well, things didn’t work out on this Friday the way I was thinking, but they still ended up working out.\u00a0 On my way north to try and catch NR-2 somewhere in Ledyard, I heard them call the Worcester dispatcher that they were in Fairview yard.\u00a0 I pulled into the parking spot at the south end of Fairview to catch NR-2 disappearing around the curve, heading for the signal at the Groton wye.\u00a0 Just then, something caught my eye – a US Coast Guard cutter in the Thames, heading south.\u00a0 Hmmm, was there a sub around?<\/p>\n
A moment later, I got my confirmation – a Virginia class fast attack sub was heading south in the Thames (my guess is it’s the USS New Hampshire<\/em>, but I can’t be sure).\u00a0 That meant the Thames River drawbridge was up, and NR-2 would be sitting tight at the signal for a bit.\u00a0 So I headed south to catch the sub coming through the bridge, then hopefully NR-2 crossing the drawbridge.<\/p>\n Well, I was able to do just that – shoot the sub from the drawbridge to Fort Trumbull, and head back and catch NR-2 crossing the river and heading through New London on their way west.\u00a0 Also in the mix was the NOAA ship Thomas Jefferson<\/em>, a smaller NOAA boat, the USCG Barque Eagle <\/em>and a US Army Blackhawk helicopter.<\/p>\n[cpg_album:465]\n Thanks for looking!
