Last night I got word that something special was going to be on Providence & Worcester train NR-4 coming into Willimantic.\u00a0 So three photographers got together for an impromptu night shoot.\u00a0 But of course, as with everything that has to do with the railroad, things changed last minute.\u00a0 But we made the best of the evening in Willimantic.<\/p>\n

Bob LaMay, Nick Palazini & myself met up in Willimantic hoping to photograph the NREX genset locomotive the P&W was delivering to the NECR (destined for points north – that’s all I heard).\u00a0 Well, as things worked out, NR-4 was late in getting out of Plainfield, and they also had to work Federal Paper inVersailles.\u00a0 So instead of standing around like three idiots, Bob broke out his museum keys and we did a quick night shoot inside the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum.<\/p>\n
We picked one scene, which included the museum’s latest acquisition – a GE 45 ton centercab locomotive.\u00a0 We took 4 or 5 shots of the 45 and 44 tonners, and here’s two of mine.<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:7971] [cpg_imagefixthumb:7970]\n
Not wanting to drain the Lumedyne batteries too much, we called it quits and headed back out to Bridge Street to wait.\u00a0 Well, after about another hour of waiting and not hearing a thing on the scanner, we called it quits a little after midnight.<\/p>\n
Since I knew it was heading out to Willimantic, I decided to take the scenic route into work this morning, and swing by the yard.\u00a0 I pulled into the CERM driveway just as dawn was breaking, and saw the locomotive sitting at the switch just past Bridge Street.\u00a0 So I grabbed my gear, and hiked out to get a shot.\u00a0 Here’s one shot where i used the Lumedyne to open up the undercarrige of the locomotive.<\/p>\n[cpg_imagefixthumb:7969]\n
With that under my belt, I hiked back to the car, packed up and headed to the office for a fun-filled day of teleconferences and troubleshooting problems.\u00a0 Hey, it’s a job!<\/p>\n
