I managed to get out at my usual time, hoping that NR-2 would be back to their “old” schedule. So I made the brief trek north to Mill Cove, with the scanner happily humming away, monitoring the P&W radio frequencies.

As I headed onto Military Highway, I got my answer – NR-2 just then hit the Jewett City detector. Cool, that gave me enough time to go to the Post Office & get stamps for the family Christmas cards (that are coming off of the printer as I type), get back to Mill Cove and get a little walk in before NR-2 arrived on the scene.

Just as I had thought, I got the stamps, walked around on the thick ice that coated Erickson Park, and got into position at the south end of Mill Cove as NR-2 reported back to Worcester that they were south of MP5.

A few moments later, NR-2 began sounding for the crossing at Red Top, and appeared from behind the tree line near MP4.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:5656]

The next trio of shots are of the train skirting the cove, which is sporting a thin layer of ice.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:5655] [cpg_imagefixthumb:5654] [cpg_imagefixthumb:5653]

And at the south end of the cove, which rarely is blocked up by ice, a pair of shots of the tail end of the train

[cpg_imagefixthumb:5652] [cpg_imagefixthumb:5651]

From there it was off to the Thames River drawbridge to see if I could get anything there. As I got there, NR-2 was already switching in Fairview, sounding like they’d be there for a bit before heading onto Amtrak’s Shore Line. I really had to get back to the office, so I grabbed a few shots of a pair of workers on the west tower, working on the cross bracing

[cpg_imagefixthumb:5650] [cpg_imagefixthumb:5649] [cpg_imagefixthumb:5648]

I thought the last one was kinda neat, catching the seagull between the uprights of the west tower, as it glided past in the cold breeze.

That’s it for today…hopefully I’ll be able to get further back to “normal” tomorrow.

Thanks for looking!
Tom

I did manage to get out this morning for a bit to hopefully catch Providence & Worcester train NR-2 heading south along the Thames River in Ledyard or Groton.
