Each December the railroad would sponsor a Santa train that ran between the two towns, giving area kids rides and a chance to meet Santa himself.  Looks like Rail America&#8217;s new owners, Fortress Investments, doesn&#8217;t think this is a good investment, so it&#8217;s been canceled. But here&#8217;s a shot I took of a pair of Santas waiting to board the train in Monson a couple years ago.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">[cpg_imagefixthumb:609]\n<p>Sorry to see it go.  I guess Scrooge now resides on Wall Street and there is no Christmas spirit at the hedge fund where apparently return on investment outweighs community goodwill.  Maybe someday they&#8217;ll get a visit from the three ghosts of the Dickens classic.
