Well, another nice morning, but another apparently early start for Providence & Worcester train NR-2. I headed out a touch later than normal, and as I was just leaving the area of work, something odd on the scanner caught my attention. What I saw across the river confirmed my suspicions.<\/p>\n

Yep, I heard NR-2s marker chirp on the scanner as I pulled out of the parking lot. As soon as I got a view across the Thames, I could see NR-2 crossing over the Shaw’s Cove swing bridge heading west. I thought that they may be heading for the NECR this early. So I headed for the parking lot that is directly across the river from the New London Amtrak station to wait & see.<\/p>\n
As I waited, I was listening for the teltale signs of NR-2 heading to the NECR – they stop at the signal and then throw the switch to the NECR lead. I was only met with silence. Then the clincher – Shaw’s Cove opened up for boat traffic. That only meant that NR-2 was heading west. Oh, well. A quick look upstream showed me that the Scoter was still moored to the State Pier unloading her cargo.<\/p>\n
I got to the parking lot at the base of the drawbridge, and got a few shots of the cargo ship at the pier.<\/p>\n

Since Shaw’s was still open, there was no chance of any trains soon, so I just cut my losses and headed back to the office. I did think about heading north to catch NR-3, but figured that would take too much time. Oh, well, you can’t win ’em all!<\/p>\n
