I still headed out for my walk, but there wasn’t much walking to do because of the downpour. It did let up a bit at the end, so I did get something in before P&W train NR-2 got on the scene, so at least it wasn’t a complete washout. Yeah, got a few pictures also…

I headed out this morning at the usual time, and it was just starting to rain. By the time I got to Erickson Park, it was downright pouring, so I figured I’d wait around a few minutes to see if I could get a status of NR-2 over the scanner. About 5 minutes later I got my answer – they were heading south out of Norwich yard and about 15 minutes from the sub base. Now if the rain would just let up.

About 12 minutes later the rain did let up, and the skies started to brighten up a bit. With the nearly complete lack of wind, the water on the cove was quite calm – hopefully it’ll yield a nice reflection of the train. Moments later, the scanner woke up with NR-2 reporting that they were south of MP-5. Time to take my position at the south end of the cove.

Not more than a minute after the report, NR-2 started sounding for the crossing at Red Top and made their way onto the causeway between Mill Cove and the Thames River

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3933]

And stretched out along the causeway

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3932]

Then finally a shot of the trailing power slipping behind the trees at the south end of the cove, again, giving a pretty nice reflection.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3931]

From there I headed down to the Thames River drawbridge to check on the progress of the east tower. Nothing major, just some catwalks installed.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3930]

With the drawbridge open, a tug headed south through the open bridge

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3929]

Then something caught my eye to the south – a Sub Base police boat heading north in the river.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3928]

And finally a shot of the tug continuing south

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3927]

Listening to the scanner, there was an Amtrak train in the picture, so NR-2 wouldn’t be coming out of Groton for a little while. I figured it was time to head back to the office, so I traveled the couple minutes south to the parking lot and called it a morning.

Thanks for looking!
Tom

Yech – clouds & rain this morning.
