\"\"As Hurricane Earl was approaching the east coast, the weather-geeks were doing their usual “the sky is falling – go out and buy bread and milk” hype. \u00a0Looking at the track of the storm, I figured it would be prudent to change my train home from Friday evening to Saturday sometime. \u00a0The way things were looking, the “height” of the storm would be hitting southeastern Connecticut right about when my train would be arriving in New London. \u00a0So I pushed it off to Saturday afternoon instead – just in case. \u00a0That also gave me a window to head out trackside before I had to get to Newark and catch my train home. \u00a0Even though Earl went further out to sea, it was a good thing I changed trains – my train never left Newark Friday night.<\/p>\n

Yep, apparently a tree fell across the wires in Waterford, CT, and my train was cancelled. \u00a0So the change was a stroke of good fortune – if I had gone to Newark and found out Friday night, I would have been stuck in the station with no room, no rental car, just a bench. \u00a0It also gave me a chance to head trackside for a few hours and do a little shooting. \u00a0As it turned out, I ended up sticking around the Three Bridges area, shooting mainly NS. \u00a0I had hoped to get the Black River & Western heading out of Ringoes, but no such luck this time. \u00a0They started out too late for my schedule, so I missed them. \u00a0I did get a couple shots in down in Ringoes, though. \u00a0In addition to that I caught a quartet of NS jobs in Three Bridges. \u00a0I did miss one DOD move that I had hoped to catch – it was heading this way, and would have been cool to catch it in NJ and CT (photos from here are coming soon…). \u00a0So here’s the goods from my morning in NJ.<\/p>\n[cpg_album:769]\n
