What a way to start out the week. But I didn’t let that stop me from my morning walk. I headed out for Erickson Park in Ledyard at my usual time, and got there well ahead of Providence & Worcester train NR-2. That gave me time to take my usual walk, and scout around for some different angles. It seems that I’ve hit most of them.

While I was grabbing my gear, the Worcester dispatcher was checking with NR-2 and where they were. The crew reported back that they were south of MP17 – that gave me a good 20-25 minutes before they got to me in Ledyard. Perfect. So I walked around for a bit, and grabbed a shot of a boat heading south in the Thames on a not really a boating day.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3769]

I decided to try my hand at a couple 6×6 frames with the Rolleiflex TLR, in addition to a couple digitals. So I picked my spot, set up the tripod and put the TLR on it. As I was setting up and getting a meter reading, the skies opened up. So I grabbed the camera, and ran back to the car – leaving the tripod in place. Not a big deal – it’s just aluminum.

As the shower passed, NR-2 reported that they were south of MP5 – perfect timing today. So I headed for the tripod, set the TLR back on it, set the focus using the depth of field scale on it (I’m tellin’ ya, it’s old school!), and finally grabbed a shot as the train came through the waist level finder (stay tuned to see the shot – it’ll be somewhat familiar). Something struck me about the camera sitting there on the tripod, so I backed up with the 20D and the wide angle lens and grabbed a shot of NR-2 passing behind the set up TLR

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3768]

Then as the trailing power passed by, I grabbed a quick digital shot of the rear end of the train, with a string of loaded Tilcon hoppers ahead of the power

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3767]

As NR-2 was heading into the distance, the skies kept getting darker. Time to pack up & head back to the office for the rest of the rainy, dreary Monday. I’ve got 2 frames left on the TLR, so watch for some scans later this week.

Thanks for looking!
Tom

Once again, the weather geeks had it right – cloudy, windy with rain rolling in mid-morning.
