But that didn’t stop me from heading out this morning for a short walk and catching Providence & Worcester train NR-2 up around Mill Cove in Ledyard, CT.

I got up to Erickson Park around my normal time, just as NR-2 was reporting they were at MP12 and about 15 minutes out of the Sub Base. That gave me enough time to walk around a bit dodging raindrops and get into position to catch NR-2 running south amongst the precipitation and fog.

As I headed for my spot towards the south end of Mill Cove, the rain of course started to pick up in intensity. Oh, well, what’s a little water? I figured I’d shoot in black & white mode today, trying to preserve the gloomy, wet feeling of the day.

As the raindrops kept falling, here came NR-2 past Red Top just to the north of me.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3756]

And I grabbed a few of my “standard” Mill Cove shots, but this time with a fog hanging in the background, and water falling in the fore.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3755] [cpg_imagefixthumb:3754] [cpg_imagefixthumb:3753]

But one shot caught my eye – a pair of ducks just sitting in the water. I barely fit them and the train in the same frame, but I think it works, even though it completely ignores the “rule of thirds.” Bah, what good are rules if you can’t break them? 🙂

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3752]

As the train cleared the cove, I got back into the car, dried off the camera first, then my head, and made my way back to the office. NR-2 was headed for Midway with a string of hoppers for Tilcon. Wish I could have headed down there, but time was getting tight.

Thanks for looking!
Tom

Well, it sucks when the weather guys get it right when they say it’s going to be a rainy day.
