Friday I had off from work, and went fishing with my father, Saturday I had to pick up some darkroom equipment from a friends place (along with some antique cameras like a Rolleieflex TLR and a Graflex Speed Graphic), then head up to Lenox, MA to work on planning the night shoot at the Berkshire Scenic Railway (September 1, 2007 if you’re curious – more on that soon), and Sunday was my aunt’s surprise 85th birthday party. Finally, I’m getting a chance to catch up on some of the shooting from the past few days.

First up was last Thursday. It was a gorgeous day, so I headed up to Red Top for my daily walk. I’ll keep the story short this time around in the interest of time. I shot P&W NR-2 at Red Top, then at the bottom of Fairview in Groton, crossing the Thames River, and finally heading through New London. Here’s the shots:

[cpg_album:226]

Friday, again, was fishing. I still need to finish processing those photos. Hopefully in a day or two I’ll get to those.

Today I didn’t go for the normal walk – I had to head over to New London to drop off a couple rolls of Fuji Velvia medium format film I ran through the Rolleieflex TLR up in Lenox on Saturday. But on my way back, I heard NR-2 calling that they were clear of MP5, so I figured I’d catch them crossing the Thames River drawbridge. As I pulled into my normal spot, I noticed a familiar looking truck. I forgot that Ross Mealey of NortheastFoto.com was going to head down today to chase NR-2 out of Plainfield. He had Ryan Parent with him as well, and were setting up for NR-2.

As we shot the bull for a couple minutes, a westbound Amtrak regional made its appearance on the drawbridge.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3749]

And as soon as they cleared the block, NR-2 got the signal to head west on their tail.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3748]

From there we packed up and headed to the spot with a better view of the station & Shaw’s Cove area. Caught a shot of NR-2 near Governor Winthrop Blvd. and a ferry in the foreground.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3747]

And as the train crawled along Bank Street in New London, a fishing boat sped up the river.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3746]

Of course, I had to get a shot of Ross waiting. I would have had Ryan in the shot too, but he moved to quickly…

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3745]

And a couple more shots of NR-2 heading through the station and Waterfront Park area

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3744] [cpg_imagefixthumb:3743]

Finally a shot of the train crossing the Shaw’s Cove swing bridge.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3742]

It was time for me to head back to work, so I left Ross & Ryan to do their bidding (they were heading for Old Saybrook next – Ross was jonesing for some Acela action at track speed).

Thanks for looking!
Tom

Phew, what a whirlwind of a weekend.
