one was in the morning on the New England Central, and two were in the afternoon on Amtrak’s Shore Line – one in Niantic, and one in Old Lyme.

First up was the new angle on the NECR. On my way into work, I heard NECR train NERWNE (aka 608) getting their train together to head south. So I figured I’d take a swing by Montville to see what was going on, and if there was any interesting morning shots from around there. When I got there, they were doing their break test prior to getting on the move southbound, only giving me a few minutes to check things out. Well a couple shots stood out to me just as the train was beginning to roll south. Also in the distance was a loaded coal barge heading north to the AES Thames power plant nearby.

[cpg_album:718]

Then later in the day, after leaving work early (they were moving our offices, so we got kicked out at about noon), I was headed to Old Lyme to turn on the water at my family’s place there. On the way, I made a quick stop at Niantic to check out a new angle north of the tracks. I got there, and it sounded like two trains were in the picture – both westbounds. So I got shots of them before heading to Old Lyme. Once in Old Lyme, I got the water done, and also mowed the grass (so it looked at least respectable), and on my way out, I checked out a spot I had been thinking about for a while. It’s located along the Duck River, which is just east of the Lieutenant River. Checking the Amtrak schedule, there was a westbound Northeast Regional due by at any minute, so I set up and waited there. Right on time they headed west past me, and I got my shots and headed out.

[cpg_album:717]

And that wraps up last week’s activities.

Thanks for looking!
Tom

Part two of my catchup posts involves some new angles I scouted out on Friday –
