\"\"With the recent derailment in Willimantic of the last run of ethanol (see here<\/a> and here<\/a>), the next loaded train took a little bit of a longer route to its destination in Providence, RI. \u00a0This time instead of heading from Willimantic to Plainfield over the Providence & Worcester’s Willimantic Branch, it headed straight down the New England Central to New London, where the P&W picked it up and headed across the Thames to Groton, and finally onto P&W rails, heading up the Norwich Branch. \u00a0The move of the final 40 cars to New London was made by the NECR late last week (some shots are in here<\/a>), and the P&W picked up the train with an extra job out of Plainfield – NR-2X. \u00a0I was able to shoot the NR-2X going in both directions along the Thames.<\/p>\n

That’s about the whole story, so here’s the photos. \u00a0First up is NR-2X heading south through Fairview yard in Groton, where they’ll drop two cars, and use the other two as spacers. \u00a0Then quickly across the river into New London for the P&W power that the NECR was using to move the ethanol around, as well as NR-2X pulling into the yard. \u00a0Then later in the day, NR-2X heading north along the Thames River and Mill Cove, and finally past Red Top in Ledyard.<\/p>\n[cpg_album:710]\n
