So I made my way to Stoddard Hill park in Ledyard, only a few miles (about 3) north of my usual spot. It was a kind of gloomy morning, with a pretty thick overcast, and that muggy haze in the air, but I’ll work with it. At least with the sun behind the clouds, it wouldn’t be oppressively hot.

As I pulled into the parking area, NR-2 notified the dispatcher that they were south of MP12 and about 15 minutes from the sub base. That put them about 8 minutes from my position, give or take. So I walked around looking for angles, and I decided on a wide shot by the boat launch into Stoddard Cove. So I strapped the 15mm fisheye lens on the camera, and took my position. I could tell NR-2 was close by because a pair of fishermen hastily moved closer to the water as the train approached. Once they moved, NR-2 appeared from behind the trees.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3650]

Then I changed position slightly, and got the DEP sign in the shot. I also decided to slow down the shutter and stop down the lens a bit and get the train bluring past

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3649]

And a shot of the trailing power, along with the sign. This time back to the normal exposure settings.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3648]

From there, I figured I could get ahead of them at the Nautilus. I did, but the pictures were really crappy, so they didn’t make the cut – well they did make a cut…right into the recycle bin! 😉

Next stop would be south of the Thames River drawbridge for some shots heading west. It didn’t take long for NR-2 to head across the drawbridge in the hazy morning air.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:3647] [cpg_imagefixthumb:3646] [cpg_imagefixthumb:3645]

As NR-2 headed for the western shore of the Thames, it was time to head back to the office. Maybe if it’s sunny one of these days, I can redo the Stoddard Cove shots with some blue sky in it. We’ll see…

Thanks for looking!
Tom

I decided to head for a little change of scenery this morning for my walk & P&W NR-2 photo session.
