sun, and a pretty much cloudless sky. Still no changing colors on the trees, but it was a nice fall morning. How could I pass that up, especially when I had a hole in my schedule?

By the time I headed out of the office, I didn’t know where NR-2 was on their trip south. So I figured I might aim high and head for Stoddard Cove again. Maybe I could perfect my blurred truck shot from the 1st. But just as I was heading past the Sub Base, NR2 reported that they were south of MP12 and about 15 minutes from the base. OK, that would be cutting it a bit close – I might have time to get out there and set up, but I figured it was too close for comfort. So I went to my usual fallback plan – Mill Cove.

Well, when I got to the bottom of Long Cove Road, I was greeted by a smooth-as-glass Mill Cove. OK, this would be worth it – if the wind doesn’t decide to kick up.

After a bit of a wait, NR-2 called the dispatcher to report that they were south of MP5. So I moved down to the south end of the still calm cove, and waited for them to appear.

Moments later a very short – as in one gondola – NR2 appeared, and I got a couple standard reflection shots.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:10399] [cpg_imagefixthumb:10398]

But next up, I used a bunch of Canada geese hanging out in front of me as a part of the shot

[cpg_imagefixthumb:10397]

Finally one shot of the train going over the inlet to the cove

[cpg_imagefixthumb:10396]

Not too bad. Next up should be Fairview yard.

Well, I did get there just before NR2, so I got a couple more standard shots of the train heading south to the Groton wye

[cpg_imagefixthumb:10395] [cpg_imagefixthumb:10394]

And at that point I called it a morning, put the gear away, and headed to the office.

Thanks for looking!
Tom

Friday was a beautiful day –
