but this time it was only for a few days. Still, like usual, the camera bag came along for the ride. Here’s some of what I shot on Monday evening.

After finishing up for the day at the office, and checking into my hotel, I made my way down to the Bound Brook NJ Transit station to see what I could see on a hazy late afternoon.

Not long after I got there, an eastbound pulled into the station, and it was powered by a GE P40DC. I got a shot of that run as they departed the station.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:9982]

Not a bad start – but were there any freights around? Looking at the signals at the Bound Brook interlocking, everything was red. So there was probably no westbounds due – too bad, because depsite the hazy conditions, the light for westbound was pretty sweet.

After waiting around for a while, I heard a chirp on the scanner – hmmm, a marker is nearby. Not long after that I noticed headlights thr0ugh the heavy haze to the west. Looks like there was an eastbound bearing down on me.

A few moments later, CSX train Q702 – a unit trash train – came into view at the far end of CP-BOUND BROOK.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:9981]

Then as they broke out of the haze, I got a series of shots as they approached the station.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:9980] [cpg_imagefixthumb:9979] [cpg_imagefixthumb:9978]

As the wonderfly fragrant train rolled past, a westbound NJT train approached the station.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:9977] [cpg_imagefixthumb:9976] [cpg_imagefixthumb:9975]

And as he pulled into the station, I was able to get a shot of Q706’s entire train

[cpg_imagefixthumb:9974]

OK, not too bad. Now to wait around again.

A little time had passed, and another westbound NJT commuter run pulled into the station.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:9973]

But still no more freights. Hmmm, wonder why.

A few minutes later gave me my answer – a pair of Conrail track cars came rolling down track 1 through Bound Brook.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:9972] [cpg_imagefixthumb:9971]

At that point, with all the signals at Bound Brook still showing red, I decided to head back to the hotel and relax a bit.

But I wasn’t done shooting yet.

After it got dark, I decided to take a quick ride up to Morristown and see what was outside the Morristown & Erie Railroad shops. Not too much – pretty much a few cars and a pair of Alcos – one still in CP colors. So I snapped a shot of them and called it a night.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:9970]

Thanks for looking!
Tom

I had to go down to New Jersey again for work this week –
