On Saturday I got an email from Nick Palazini informing me that the power from a Providence & Worcester ethanol extra was outlawed in Valley Falls, RI, and sitting on the Blackstone River bridge. Along with that information came an invite for me and my Lumedyne to come out and shoot it. Well, it was an invite that I couldn’t pass up. So after the kids were in bed, I packed things up and headed to RI for, believe it or not, my first visit to the state to shoot railroads.
The short version is this – it was well worth the hour plus drive out there. There were 4 B39-8s sitting on the Blackstone River bridge idling away. Nick & I got a number of shots from both ends, along with a couple shots of the P&W caboose sitting next to the engine house. I only posted a few right now – the rest will be saved for a slideshow on railroads at night I’ll be giving in late May of this year. Most of the shots were lit by the Lumedyne, but there’s one that uses only ambient light. Without further adieu, here’s the goods.
[cpg_album:516]Now I need to go back there in the daytime. One of these days…
Thanks for looking!

After running 80 car unit ethanol trains into and out of Valley Falls (I believe I’m coorect in this) for some time, why is the power now outlawed? Any light you could shed on this would be appreciated. What was the end result?
Thanks:

Joe-
From what I’ve heard, three words sum it up – CSX was late. Apparently they were a few hours late, and this cut into the crew’s time enough to cause them to outlaw in Valley Falls.

Thanks, at least, it allowed you time for some night photo ops in RI.

You got that right Joe! Had to take advantage of it when Nick let me know…
