The last days of 2008

OK, now that we’re squarely into 2009, I’ve got a couple sets of pictures from the last two days of 2008 to post.  Both days I caught 3 trains – Providence & Worcester train NR-2 and a pair of Amtrak Acelas – trains 2155 and 2190, all in the Groton/New London area.  Oh, yeah, on New Year’s Eve, I took a quick picture of the New England Central as the snow storm was wrapping up.

On the 30th, I decided to try something different – some pan shots of the trains rolling across the Thames River drawbridge.  Something that’s difficult enough on a calm day, but stupid me tried it out on a day with a steady 30 MPH wind, that was gusting up to about 50.  Well, I did get a few keepers – nothing earth shattering, but not bad overall.  In the mix too are a couple shots of passing tugs/barges.

On New Years Eve the weather forecasters were calling for a pretty good snowfall, that was to start in the morning, and continue in earnest all day.  Well, by the time I got out, the snow hadn’t started to fall yet, and since I did get out a bit later than usual, NR-2 was already past MP5 by the time I got to the Sub Base.  So I turned around and started things out in Fairview as the snow began to fall.  After that, it was over to the Thames River draw as the snow really picked up.  Then later in the day, I got a shot of the NECR train sitting shut down in South Windham as the snow storm was wrapping up.
