Something happened on the way home from the show

After the first night of the Amherst Railway Society’s annual Train Show at the Big E in West Springfield, MA, I attended a gathering of friends and fellow rail photographers where we share some of our work over beers & pizza.  After that was done, and it was time to head home, I decided to take the scenic route home, making a couple stops along the way.  Hey, I was already in north-central Mass, why not?

Despite the seemingly single-digit weather (no thermometer in the car), I swung through PanAm Railway’s East Deerfield yard to see what was around there that I could light up with the Lumedyne.  Nothing interesting in the pit area, but there was a pair of ex-Boston & Maine plows sitting by the old yard tower.  So I had to snap a couple shots of the pair of snow equipment sitting under the stars.

With nearly all the feeling out of my face, I got back into the car and made my way south.  I did have one other shot in mind – in Deerfield, across Route 5 from Magic Wings, there are a pair of former Boston & Maine cabosses sitting there.  When I got there, I saw that not only they were still there, but also the snow around them was pretty much undisturbed!  So I got a couple shots, with this one being the keeper.

After that, I hit the Dunkin’ Donuts down the road, and got back on I-91 south to head home.  I thought about stopping by West Springfield to shoot at least the CSOR power there, but with it being nearly 1am as I drove past, I nixed the idea.

Thanks for looking!
Tom
