Looks like the New England Central Railroad has canceled a tradition in Monson & Palmer, MA. Each December the railroad would sponsor a Santa train that ran between the two towns, giving area kids rides and a chance to meet Santa himself. Looks like Rail America’s new owners, Fortress Investments, doesn’t think this is a good investment, so it’s been canceled. Check out the whole story here. But here’s a shot I took of a pair of Santas waiting to board the train in Monson a couple years ago.

Sorry to see it go. I guess Scrooge now resides on Wall Street and there is no Christmas spirit at the hedge fund where apparently return on investment outweighs community goodwill. Maybe someday they’ll get a visit from the three ghosts of the Dickens classic. I guess the photo above could be from the Ghost of Christmas Past.
Merry Christmas folks.

Typical of corporate greed to cut a program like that. Great photo though. Ghosts of Christmas Past… like that one.

A bunch of us are still sad to see our train end on such a sad note. To everyone that enjoyed The Santa Train,
MERRY CHRISTMAS
