Reflecting by the Nautilus

The day after my last trip to NJ, I was able to catch Providence & Worcester train NR-2 under some blue skies.  The only problem was that I was only able to catch them at the USS Nautilus.  But that’s not really a bad thing…

What the bad thing was is that my car broke down, so I had to limp it back home to get my truck.  So after transferring my gear to the truck, I headed into work.  On the trip south, the scanner was doing its thing, and as I was coming into Franklin, I barely picked up the Jewett City detector – it sounded like it reported 8 axles heading south.  Then the Worcester dispatcher acknowledged that NR-2 went through the detector without any defects.  OK, so there was light engines heading south.  I figured that it was still worth shooting, so I headed south.

I managed to keep ahead of them, and eventually decided on catching them at the USS Nautilus overlook park in Groton.  I pulled in and parked a couple minutes ahead of NR-2 – in fact, as I parked and started to walk around, NR-2 reported that they were south of MP5.  So I went to the truck, grabbed my gear, and headed to the fence to pick an angle.

I opted for a spot close to the Sub Force museum, something a little different than what I usually shoot.  A moment later, the crossing activated, and NR-2 came into view.

Then a couple shots of the pair of locomotives rolling past the Nautilus

And that was it – I had to get into the office, so I didn’t wait for the train to cross the Thames.

Thanks for looking!
