Another day of gorgeous weather down on the Connecticut shore – perfect for my daily walk. Today, I went for Erickson Park in Ledyard again, of course with the aim of shooting Providence & Worcester train NR-2 along the walk.
I got to the park well in advance of the train – giving me about 20 minutes for my walk before they were due to arrive in the area. So I grabbed my scanner and began my laps around the park. When I got back to the car, I noticed some birds dusting themselves in a patch of dry dirt in the park. Got a shot of one of them doing his thing.

Today I decided to go for an angle a bit further south of the park, but not quite at the inlet to Mill Cove. As I parked the car, NR-2 called over the radio that they were south of MP5. That gave me just enough time to get out and into position as the train was sounding for the crossing at Red Top. Moments later, they made their appearnace and I snapped a series of shots as they passed.

A pretty long train, but unlike yesterday, all the power was on the head end – nothing was trailing today. I got back into the car, and tried to get ahead of them, possibly getting a shot at Fairview. Well, I did get ahead of them, because as I was sitting at the stoplight at the Sub Base’s south gate, I saw the train pass before me – the entire thing, from lead locomotive to final car. Luckily, the light was the only thing to screw with me – there was nobody in front of me, and I got ahead of the train in plenty of time to get a shot of them at the south end of the yard. Rod was riding the front of the locomotive as they passed by.

They were heading to Midway next, but I didn’t have time to head over there – I needed to get back to the office. So I called it a morning, and headed south.
Thanks for looking!
