P&W and a couple boats

Another nice blue sky day today, one I had to take advantage of.  So I headed out for my walk this morning, hoping to catch Providence & Worcester train NR-2 in Ledyard.  I did bag them, along with a couple things floating on the water – one with NR-2, and one when I went out for lunch.

This morning, I headed to my usual spot in Ledyard – Erickson Park and Mill Cove.  I got there a few minutes before NR-2.  So I picked my spot at the south end of the cove just as I heard a chirp on the scanner – they weren’t that far off.

A few moments later, NR-2 started sounding for the crossing at Red Top, and came into view.  Boy was it a huge train – all of one car!  That’s OK – I still shot it as it rolled along the cove.

And I just made it to my spot south of the Thames River drawbridge to catch them crossing the river.  But as a bonus, one of the Sub Base Police boats was leaving the fuel dock as NR-2 was rolling over the River.  Note the machine gun on the bow…

And the 12 axle train crossed into New London, and continued west, as I headed back to the office.

But that’s not the end of it all.   I headed out for lunch, and after I got it, I took a ride by the Thames River.  No, I didn’t catch a train, but rather a Los Angeles class sub heading out of the Sub Base – not sure which boat it was though.  So I got a few shots of her heading south towards the open sea.

With the shots of the 688I class sub in the bag, I headed to the office for the remainder of the day.  Not a bad day overall.

Thanks for looking!
