Yeah, once again I’m a bit behind on postings. Here’s some stuff from back on October 20th where I came across Providence & Worcester train NR-2, some railfans from New Jersey and Connecticut and a Virginia class fast attack submarine heading back to the US Navy Sub Base in Groton.
OK, we’ll keep things brief. I was able to head out for a bit back on the 20th, and came across some railfans up by Mill Cove waiting for P&W train NR-2 to come onto the scene. There were 3 guys up from NJ, and Mark Schenking all waiting down at the south end of the cove. After a quick conversation, NR-2 came onto the scene and we did our things. Then we went our seperate ways – Mark and the guys from the Garden State continued south on Route 12, while I headed for Military Highway to try and catch NR-2 in Fairview, then crossing the Thames. But I got a little surprise.
While heading down Military Higway, I saw a Virginia class sub heading north in the Thames. So a quick U-turn was in order to get a few shots of her heading back to the sub base (I think it’s the USS New Hampshire undergoing sea trials prior to commissioning, but I can’t be 100% sure).
After that, I snagged a few shots of NR-2 crossing the Thames and rolling through New London and called it a morning. And now for what you’ve come here for – the pictures. Enjoy!
