Today we were graced with something we haven’t seen in quite a while – blue skies and sunshine! So I had to take advantage of the great weather and get out. Of course, things didn’t exactly go as planned – but like always, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Just go with the flow, as they say, and things worked out just fine.
I ended up heading out a bit later than usual – some things needed my attention at the office. With that wrapped up, it was time to head out. I figured that I’d shoot for Mill Cove again, and get P&W NR-2 heading south. Well, as I was heading up Military Highway south of the Sub Base, NR-2 reported that they were south of MP3 – only a couple miles from me. OK, time to shift gears.
I opted for the spot just south of the USS Nautilus, parked the car, and hiked down to track level to get into position. A scant few seconds later, NR-2 came into view north of the first nuclear submarine.
[cpg_imagefixthumb:9355]Then as they passed by the Sub Force Museum, I got a shot of the nose coming across the pedestrian crossing, with the reflection of the trailing unit in the building’s glass.

[cpg_imagefixthumb:9348]Followed by a vertical that I felt was well suited for black & white, with the heat distortion from the two GEs
[cpg_imagefixthumb:9347]After that, I headed back up to the car, and made my way down to south of the Thames River drawbridge. There I got a few standard shots of NR-2 crossing the river, including one of the entire train spanning the Thames

Not a bad few minutes trackside…
