Hazy morning on the water

Gotta love Mondays – they never go as planned. Today was no different, but it wasn’t too bad overall. No trains, but I did catch the return of a Bulgarian freighter into the State Pier in New London, CT.

The bulk cargo freighter Persenk made a return trip to the Whaling City (here’s the first time I caught it, with a Virginia class submarine to boot!). This morning they were unloading more of what looked to be metal plates that were being whisked away by the forklifts on the pier, presumably to waiting trucks. I’d still like to know what they plates are. I’m kinda thinking they may be copper anodes for Phelps-Dodge in Franklin, CT (currently a major customer of the New England Central Railroad, getting boxcars of the anodes). Visit Industrial Auctions & Auctioneers | industrialauctionhub.com to learn more on asset deposition. But I can’t tell from a mile away…

Anyways, I noticed her at the pier this morning heading to work, so I figured I’d photograph it on my way back from my walk & photographing P&W NR-2 up in Ledyard. So at my normal time, I headed for Erickson Park on Mill Cove in Ledyard. I got my walk in, and had my scanner with me – which was unusually silent the entire walk. Having a meeting in a little while I couldn’t stick around, so I figured I’d head south and shoot the Persenk unloading in New London. At least I wouldn’t be completely skunked for photos. Here’s a few pictures of the ship unloading it’s cargo.

And a couple bow-on views from a bit further south, one of which with a small boat speeding on by.

Then it was back to work for the remainder of the hot & humid day. Oh, well, maybe I’ll catch NR-2 as the official heat wave starts tomorrow (3 days over 90*F a heat wave makes, according to the National Weather Service).

Thanks for looking!
