Day and Night NJT action

Well, the work schedule down here is allowing me to get a bit of railfanning in. I would have been out yesterday, but something got in the way – a freaking flat tire! Yep, I got a flat on my way out of work yesterday, so I had to find a place that was open. I did find someplace to get a new tire mounted at 5:30PM a couple miles from the hotel. But tonight, both before and after work, I was able to get out and shoot a bit. As you can tell by the title, it was all New Jersey Transit. And, no, I had no problems shooting NJT trains…

I headed out early this morning to try to catch NJT near the North Branch station on the Raritan Line – which is a mile or so east of my hotel, so it was convenient. I got there about 10 minutes before the eastbound was due into the station, so I found a place to park, and started hiking through the woods.

I found an angle that would work out OK for me this morning – it was kind of cloudy, so there was no strong sun on the east side of the tracks, and it really didn’t matter where I set up shop for my shot. But I ended up on the east side of the tracks anyways.

A couple moments later, the train pulled into the station, and after the passengers boarded, they began heading towards me. I got one shot of the train heading away from me, getting a slight panning shot as the train picked up speed heading for the Big Apple

With the next train a half hour out, I figured I’d head towards work. Maybe I could make it up and catch a train into Far Hills on the Gladstone Branch, and maybe get some sunshine.

Well, I got the train, but not that much sunshine. I got there ahead of NYC bound train 416, and got a series of shots of them pulling through the interlocking north of the station

Then into the Far Hills station

Hey, at least I got something. It was getting close to time for me to get to the office, so I packed the gear away, and hit the road.

Fast forward to this evening. We went out to dinner after work at a restaurant that just happened to be near the Glastsone station, the terminus of the NJT Glastone branch. So I got a few shots around the station of the trains tied down for the night.

Then on the way out, I swung by a crossing that was just south of Gladstone yard, and got a shot of the trains sitting under the yard lights.

Then it was time to get back to the hotel, and enjoy a Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA while doing this…heh…

Thanks for looking!
